하나님의 형통

창세기 39장은 요셉의 삶을 통해 ‘하나님의 형통’이라는 개념을 가르쳐줍니다. 요셉은 노예로 팔려가고 감옥에 갇히는 역경 속에서도 하나님의 함께하심으로 형통한 삶을 살았습니다. 성경은 ‘하나님의 형통’이 세상적인 성공이나 물질적 풍요와는 다른 차원의 번영임을 강조하며, 하나님과의 동행 속에서 누리는 진정한 행복과 만족을 가르쳐 줍니다. 

일반적으로 형통은 일이 막힘없이 순조롭게 풀리는 것을 의미합니다. 세상적인 관점에서 형통은 물질, 성공, 건강, 인간관계 등 외형적인 조건들의 풍요로 정의됩니다. 그러나 이러한 세상적인 형통은 일시적이고 불완전하며, 언제든 변할 수 있는 조건에 의존합니다. 반면, 하나님의 형통은 단순히 외형적인 조건에 좌우되지 않습니다. 하나님의 형통은 하나님과의 관계 속에서 비롯되는 내적인 충만함과 안정감을 경험하게 됩니다.  그래서 하나님의 뜻에 순종하고 그분의 말씀에 따라 살아갈 때, 하나님께서 주시는 지혜와 능력을 통해 삶의 모든 영역에서 번영하고 궁극적으로 영원한 승리를 경험합니다.

창세기 39장 2-3절은 "여호와께서 요셉과 함께 하시므로 그가 형통한 자가 되어... 그의 주인이 여호와께서 그와 함께 하심을 보며 또 여호와께서 그의 범사에 형통하게 하심을 보았더라"라고 기록합니다. 이는 하나님의 함께하심이 곧 형통임을 알려 줍니다. 

요셉의 삶은 고난 속에서도 하나님의 형통이 경험됨을 가르쳐 줍니다. 요셉은 형들의 시기로 인해 노예로 팔려갔고, 누명을 쓰고 감옥에 갇히기도 했습니다. 그러나 이러한 고난 속에서도 하나님께서는 요셉과 함께하셨고, 그는 형통한 자가 되어서 다른 사람들이 보기에도 하나님께 함께 하심을 느끼게 하였습니다.  

감옥은 요셉에게 절망과 좌절을 안겨주는 곳이었지만, 동시에 하나님께서 요셉을 훈련시키고 형통하도록 연단하시는 장소였습니다. 요셉은 감옥에서 하나님의 지혜와 능력을 더욱 깊이 경험하며, 하나님의 계획을 준비 할 수 있었습니다. 이처럼 하나님께서는 고난을 통해 우리를 성장시키시고, 더 큰 축복을 주시기 위한 섭리를 이루어 가십니다.

하나님의 형통은 단순히 물질적인 풍요나 성공을 넘어선, 하나님과의 관계 속에서 누리는 참된 행복과 영적 만족을 의미합니다. 하나님과 함께하는 삶은 세상적인 어려움 속에서도 참된 평안과 능력을 경험하게 하며, 궁극적으로 형통한 삶을 누리게 합니다.  그렇기 때문에 우리가 진정으로 추구해야 할 것은 ‘세상적인 형통’이 아니라, ‘하나님과 함께 하는 삶’입니다. 하나님과의 관계를 더욱 깊이하고, 그분의 뜻에 순종하며 살아갈 때, 우리는 세상이 줄 수 없는 참된 형통을 누릴 수 있습니다.

사랑하는 성도 여러분, 삶의 모든 영역에서 하나님과 함께 동행하시고 하나님의 형통을 경험하며 살아계신 하나님을 이 땅에 전하는 통로가 되시길 주님의 이름으로 축복합니다. 

God's prosperity

Genesis 39 teaches the concept of "God's prosperity" through the life of Joseph. Despite being sold as a slave and imprisoned, Joseph lived a prosperous life through God's presence. The Bible emphasizes that "God's prosperity" is a kind of flourishing that is different from worldly success or material wealth, teaching that true happiness and satisfaction are found in walking with God.

In general, prosperity means things going smoothly and without obstacles. From a worldly perspective, prosperity is defined by external conditions such as wealth, success, health, and relationships. However, this worldly prosperity is temporary, incomplete, and dependent on conditions that can change at any moment. On the other hand, God's prosperity is not dependent on external conditions. It comes from the inner fulfillment and stability that arise from a relationship with God. Therefore, when we obey God's will and live according to His word, we prosper in all areas of life through the wisdom and power He provides, ultimately experiencing eternal victory.

Genesis 39:2-3 says, "The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered... When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, he was pleased with him." This shows that God's presence is prosperity itself.

Joseph’s life teaches us that God's prosperity can be experienced even in the midst of suffering. Joseph was sold as a slave because of his brothers’ jealousy, and he was imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. However, even in these hardships, God was with Joseph, and he became prosperous, so much so that others could also see God's presence with him.

The prison was a place of despair and defeat for Joseph, but at the same time, it was a place where God trained him and refined him to experience prosperity. In prison, Joseph experienced God's wisdom and power more deeply, and he was able to prepare for God's plan. In this way, God uses hardship to grow us and fulfill His providence, ultimately leading to greater blessings.

God’s prosperity goes beyond material wealth or success; it refers to the true happiness and spiritual satisfaction found in a relationship with God. A life with God allows us to experience true peace and strength, even in the midst of worldly difficulties, and ultimately enables us to live a prosperous life. Therefore, what we should truly seek is not "worldly prosperity," but "a life with God." When we deepen our relationship with Him and live according to His will, we can experience the true prosperity that the world cannot give.
